Glass bead making is an ancient art form that has experienced a great resurgence in the past several years. There are countless varieties of style, color, and shape that combine to make beautiful and unique glass beads. In this class you will be introduced to the equipment, tools, materials, and techniques used to safely melt and form glass into glass beads. You will learn how to lay dots and lines on the surface of the bead as a basis of bead design and style. Learn how to use tools and marvering techniques to shape glass into square, triangle, and tube beads. You will leave the class with your own beautiful beads and perhaps a dose of glass bead fever!

Precious Metal Clay Exploration

This is the introductory class to take if you’ve never taken a metal clay jewelry class, or if you’ve been away from working with Precious Metal Clay (PMC) and would like a refresher. Explore the many ways that you can use fine Silver PMC to create jewelry designs of your own. You’ll make pendants, earrings, simple beads, charms, and rings with a focus on incorporating nature into the pieces. You’ll even learn to set and fire stones in your pieces. You will fully finish three or four pieces of jewelry in this one-day class! Techniques and projects will be demonstrated. Come create jewelry that you'll want to make and wear. Students at all levels of experience are welcome to join in the fun.

Lampworking:Glass Bead Surface Decoration

Want to get creative with your beads? Endless design possibilities begin with a simple dot or line. Students will learn how to lay dots and lines on the surface of a bead as the basis of bead design and style. Learn how to melt and move the dots and lines into various patterns and designs. Creating and using multicolor rods of glass called "twisties" will also be covered. Previous lampwork experience required.

Lampworking: Adding Depth and Encasing to Glass Beads

Looking for depth and interest in your beads? Add a layer of clear glass to get the depth and interest you are looking for in your bead designs. In this class students will learn various methods of adding an encasing layer of glass to beads. Altering the look and design of the base bead through heat control and glass movement will be covered and explored. Previous lampwork experience required.

Lampworking: Beyond the Basic Glass Bead - Fun with Floral

Want to create your own little garden in glass? In this class students will learn how to create flowers under an encasement layer of glass and how to place flowers on the surface of a bead. Creating and using petal and vine cane to create beautiful surface flowers will also be covered. (Prerequisite: Introduction to Lampworking and Encasing)

Sterling Metal Clay with an Emphasis on Rings

Sterling clay (.925) is one of the newer metal clays in the PMC line. The increased strength of the sterling clay as well as the ease of working with it make it ideal for ring making. It is more forgiving in terms of drying out as well as being wonderful to add carved details. The best of both worlds is when you make .960 sterling clay (a 50/50 combination of pure silver clay and .925 sterling clay) because it doesn’t require the two step firing process involving carbon that is needed for .925 clay but retains the strength and ease of use. You will learn how to create this new alloy and how to use it. The emphasis will be on making rings, but you are also welcome to use your clay to make other items. While this class is ideal for those with metal clay experience, it is open to anyone with an interest in learning metal clay techniques for making rings with .960 sterling.
