Timber Framing
Adirondack Woodshed
Sam Caldwell
In this class, you will be introduced to the basic timber framing methods and the tools that are used for building with timber frame construction. You probably already have the tools you need in your garage at home. There will be demonstrations of the different methods of cutting the basic mortise and tenon joints, as well as putting together knee braces and the different ways of using hand tools in framing and their relative efficiency. Create your own woodshed which you will build and take home. Once at home, you'll just need to add the siding and roof and then start stacking.

Adirondack Cabin
Sam Caldwell
Learn traditional timber frame joinery historically used in the Adirondacks in this design and build class. Focused around an 8' x 12' footprint, you will be encouraged to put your own design elements into your individual frames - so come with your own vision! We will also discuss and demonstrate raising techniques, possibilities for roofing and siding, as well as different types of foundations. Students should have some minimal proficiency with basic hand tools.
