Stained Glass for Beginners

In this introductory class, students will learn the basics of creating stained glass art. Students will be creating two 8" x 10" panels, a diamond and a sunburst pattern. The instructor will guide students through the processes of safety, tools and material selection, design, tracing and cutting the glass and soldering. Both panels will be made using a copper foil method. All materials will be supplied. Students will leave their final session with two completed projects and all the tools and materials needed to continue to create stained glass art at home.

This class will take place at the instructor's studio located at 21 Cooper Street, Glens Falls, NY 12801 - the basement of the Shirt Factory. Students must wear closed toe shoes and long pants - no nylon clothing. Old clothes are suggested.

Introduction to Lampworking: Glass Beads

Glass bead making is an ancient art form that has experienced a great resurgence in the past several years. There are countless varieties of style, color, and shape that combine to make beautiful and unique glass beads. In this class you will be introduced to the equipment, tools, materials, and techniques used to safely melt and form glass into glass beads. You will learn how to lay dots and lines on the surface of the bead as a basis of bead design and style. Learn how to use tools and marvering techniques to shape glass into square, triangle, and tube beads. You will leave the class with your own beautiful beads and perhaps a dose of glass bead fever!

Lampworking: Glass Bead Surface Decoration

Want to get creative with your beads? Endless design possibilities begin with a simple dot or line. Students will learn how to lay dots and lines on the surface of a bead as the basis of bead design and style. Learn how to melt and move the dots and lines into various patterns and designs. Creating and using multicolor rods of glass called "twisties" will also be covered. Previous lampwork experience required.
