Rugs from Rags

Fabric remnants will be used to make a 24"x30" rug. Students will have a choice of making a "Sock Rug", using loopers from a sock factory, or making a "Rag Rug" using strips of fabric remnants or clothing. No weaving experience is necessary. The looms are dressed and ready to go, all you need to bring is your creative spirit and leave with a finished one-of-a-kind rag rug.

Introduction to Inkle Loom Weaving

Join us for a morning of inkle loom weaving! Students will have a variety of patterns and colors to choose from. They will use the pattern to warp an inkle loom to create a colorful band that can be used for trim, a strap or a belt. The finished band can be up to seven feet long, or multiple shorter bands can be created. No prior experience is necessary. Students as young as 10 years old are welcome to join in.

Introduction to Floor Loom Weaving: Colorful Dish Towels

Cotton dish towels are a great first project for learning the floor loom. Cotton is a simple to weave fiber and dish towels can be a wonderful playground for color and texture in simple twills. We will focus on basic skills in design and warping on Saturday. Sunday afternoon will find us weaving off the finished and functional towel. Students will have a choice of colors for their design.

Needle Felted Adirondack Elf

Needle felting is the process of using a barbed needle to interlock wool fibers to form a dense material. Students will make an Adirondack elf under a mushroom. Basic and intermediate needle felting techniques will be covered as well as advanced techniques such as constructing a frame and armature, and joining multiple needle felted pieces. Advanced level. Basic needle felting experience is required.

Sew a Blanket Shirt

Through the ages the blanket has been a source of warmth and comfort. In this relaxed class students will design and learn how to utilize that blanket to create a garment that can be worn when the cold winds blow. Topics will include learning hand stitching, the design of your shirt, the use of wool in regulating the body's core temperature, the simple match coat and how to wear one and the history of blanket shirts, coats and cloaks. Some knowledge of sewing is helpful but not required. Needles, thread and scissors will be provided.

You may bring your own blankets. They should measure at least 65" x 80". One blanket will work well for small to large sizes. Two or more blankets may be needed for XL or greater. Needle Felted Snowman

Needle felting is the process of using a barbed needle to interlock wool fibers to form a dense material. Students will make a lovely whimsical snowman, perfect for the holidays or as a winter decoration. Basic needle felting techniques will be discussed and taught. Beginner level. No prior experience is required.

Needle Felted Winter Cardinal

Needle felting is the process of using a barbed needle to interlock wool fibers to form a dense material. Students will make a beautiful winter cardinal just in time to welcome the holiday season. Basic needle felting techniques will be covered as well as intermediate techniques such as making wire feet, complex eyes, beaks and wings. Intermediate level. Some knowledge of needle felting is helpful.
