Make a Tin Pail

Jacques Gallant & David Cafone

Make a tin pail using original tinsmith tools from the 1800's and real American tin. Students interested in local manufacture and Colonial trades can get a taste of how household metal objects come to life. We will also talk about skills you can take home for other projects and ways to make work without all the fancy tools. Soldering for water-tight joints will be optional where time allows. A great all-around introduction to some light metalwork.

Medieval Ball and Chain Flail

Colin Roy

Join Master of Arms Champion, Colin Roy, as he guides students in the art of making a medieval ball and chain flail. Students will start with raw materials and use traditional methods throughout. The use of a striker will be utilized so students will work in pairs. This will allow them to learn how to anticipate the steps that will need to be taken during forging and, in turn, will help them learn quicker. Each piece of the ball and chain flail will be forged separately and will be assembled in the end. Students will be using skills such as: bezeling, upsetting, striking, tapering and even forge welding to complete this difficult, but very fun build.
